Who is this for?

This 5 day course is spread over 2 weeks to minimise the amount of disruption to your working week! 13th, 14th, 15th, 21st & 22nd September

Anyone who has responsibility for the organisation and running of a construction site, including Contract Managers, Site Managers and assistant Site Managers.

Site Managers Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course:

At the end of this intensive course of training Candidates should have an acceptable knowledge of their roles and responsibilities within the construction industry.
All Candidates will be able to state their understanding of all legislation and regulation relating to SMSTS, COSHH, and risk assessment. Formulate safety policy, risk assessment principles and procedures and carry out auditing, monitoring and review.

Day 1

  • Introduction and registration
  • Multi choice question paper
  • The legal system
  • HSWA
  • Accident: Cost of Accidents & Reporting
  • Overview of Management of HSW regs
  • Overview of CDM sections 1 & 2
  • Exercise 1 Implementing Health & Safety Legislation

Day 2

  • Syndicate Presentations – Exercise 1
  • CDM Sections 3,4 & 5
  • Work at Height Regulations (WAHR)
  • Management of Contractors
  • Electricity at Work – Permits to work
  • PUWER
  • LOLER
  • Fire Precautions and Risk Assessments
  • Exercise 2-Managers & Supervisors responsibilities

Day 3

  • Syndicate Presentations – Exercise 2
  • COSHH (as amended)
  • Noise at Work Regulations
  • Overview – Working with Lead
  • Manual Handling Regulations
  • Asbestos – Legal requirements
  • Confined Spaces Regulations
  • Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)
  • Exercise 3 – Site Specific Instructions

Day 4

  • Syndicate Presentations – Exercise 3
  • First Aid at Work Regulations
  • RIDDOR
  • Communication on Health & Safety
  • Safety Representatives & safety committees
  • Consultation with Employees
  • Behavioural Science – Human factors
  • Exercise 4 – Site Layout

Day 5

  • Continuation of Exercise 4
  • Syndicate Presentations
  • Final revision period – GE700’s
  • Final exam
  • Complete Exercise 4 – Questionnaire
  • De-brief and discussion
  • Course Dispersal
