Who is this for?

This training course is designed for personnel who are supervising overhead cranes and lifting equipment operations. Candidates should have sufficient experience of working with lifting equipment and accessories, and slinging and signalling.

The Crane Supervisor – Industrial OHC – Novice Course:

To train candidates in the knowledge necessary to ensure implementation of the lift plan in relation to the safe working with industrial cranes and lifting equipment. On completion of this training course, candidates should have an accepted knowledge of the legal and safety duties for the planning and supervision of lifting operations involving industrial cranes.

  • Introduction
  • Supporting legislation and regulations
  • Parameters defining the categories of lifting operations BS 7121
  • Duties and responsibilities of all personnel involved in the planning and supervision of lifting operations
  • Types of lifting equipment & accessories
  • Lifting Equipment/Accessories certification & documentation
  • Checking certification and training of personnel involved with lifting operations
  • Procedures for conducting and producing Risk Assessment/Method statements and Lift Plans
  • Supervising industrial cranes and lifting equipment against the lift plan
  • Practical implementation of a prescribed lift plan
  • Hazard identification during lifting operations
  • Stopping the lift in the event of any risk to safety
  • Action in the event of misalignment with the lift plan
  • Demonstrate effective slinging methods
  • Demonstrate appropriate communication methods
  • Course closure
