Who

This course is for candidates who need instruction in the methods of correct and safe operation of a Mobile Elevating Work Platform, Boom or Scissor

Aims

We can offer training on all the variants of MEWP such as Boom (commonly known as Cherry Picker), Scissor and vehicle mounted and under 2 awarding bodies. IPAF levels are 3a, 3b and 1a/1b

Objectives

On completion of this training course the candidate should be able to operate the Mo-bile Elevating Work Platform safely and cor-rectly in accordance with the manufacturers handbook approved training specifications and accepted good practice.

• Introduction, aim and objectives
• Assessing risks relating to tasks to be performed and the working environment
• Selection of appropriate MEWP
• The operators manual including:
• Warnings and instructions
• Applicable safety rules
• Storage
• Pre start checks
• Factors affecting stability
• Hazards and avoidance
• MEWP controls including emergency operation
• Problems or malfunctions affecting the operation of the MEWP
• Use of PPE appropriate to task, worksite and environment
• Safe travelling
• Transportation of the MEWP (If appropriate)
• Preventing unauthorised use
• Obtaining assistance
• Operation of the MEWP
• Theory and practical assessments
• Summary discussions and course documentation
