Who

This practical course is designed for novice 4 Way Directional Reach truck operators who have little or no experience. The training & achievement test fully complies with the approved code of practice for training lift truck operators.

Aims

To enable candidates to operate the 4 way reach truck safely and reach the required standard under assessment conditions.

Objectives

On completion of training, operators should have an acceptable knowledge of their legal and safety duties in relation to the use of a 4 way reach truck. Use a 4 way reach truck safely and in accordance with the manufacturers guide lines and accepted good practice.

Outline

  • Introduction, aims and objectives
  • Understand duties and responsibilities of Lift truck opera-tors
  • Identify, describe, and explain the principle components
  • Understand the terminology used and the features affecting the stability and capacity of the 4 way reach truck
  • Safely locate and operate all the controls of the 4 way reach
  • Understand and correctly respond to warning devices fitted to the 4 way reach truck
  • Carry out pre-use safety inspection and perform daily maintenance checks as recommended by the machine man-ufacturer
  • Identify safe terrain conditions & operate within the design limits of the machine
  • Operate and manoeuvre 4 way reach in confined areas
  • Understand the safe loading of the machine and assess the weight of loads handled (if applicable)
  • Stack and de-stack loads at varying heights
  • Stack pallets and stillage’s
  • Charging/refuelling procedures
  • Parking and isolation
