Who

This training course is designed to develop operators skills and knowledge to safely operate a loading shovel.

Aims

The Loading Shovel course can be delivered as an assessment, refresher or novice level dependant on experience and under 4 awarding bodies. Grants may be available under the CITB scheme if you are a levy payer

Objectives

The Loading Shovel training course will train candidates in the operational skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively operate wheeled loading shovels. On completion of this training course candidates will effectively and safely operate the loading shovel to industry recognised standards.

Course Contents

• Introduction, aims and objectives
• General loading shovel safety
• Access and egress procedures
• Loading shovel stability and dynamic forces effecting safe operation
• Identify component parts of the loading shovel
• Machine controls/instruments and safety devices
• Pre-start checks, precautions and record keeping proce-dures
• Understand and correctly respond to warning devices fitted to the machine
• Manoeuvring, travelling loaded and unloaded conditions
• Identify safe terrain and site conditions to operate within the design limits of the machine
• Operate machine safely around sites, i.e. Overheads lines, speed limits and slope driving
• Front shovel – loading, cleaning and pushing operations
• Importance of good housekeeping during loading operations
• Front shovel – Vehicle loading operations (Precautions and procedures)
• Pre-use inspection and rating of shovel attachment
• Procedures for coupling, uncoupling and locking front shovel attachment
• Parking and isolation procedures
