Who is this for?

Mobile Crane operators.

The Mobile Crane Training Course:

To train candidates in the operational techniques and knowledge required to safely and effectively operate mobile cranes. On completion of training, operators should have an accepted knowledge of codes of practice and HSE guidelines GS39 and safety duties in relation to lifting equipment. Operate a mobile crane safely and in accordance with the manufacturers guide lines and accepted good practice.

Course content:

Introduction

  • Types of mobile crane and their operational parameters
  • Duties and responsibilities associated to lifting operations
  • Principle components of a mobile crane
  • Environmental factors effecting crane setup and operation
  • Crane documentation, specifications and statutory inspection requirements
  • Crane and industry terminology – definition of lift types in BS 7127 part 1
  • Indicators (Automatic Safe Load Indicator, Load/Radius, Jib Angle)
  • Crane capability and capacity – ground pressures and mat sizing
  • Basic principles of the power unit and its systems
  • Location and function of all controls – function and operation of PTO
  • Pre-start checks, parking and shut down procedures
  • Basic manoeuvring and positioning
  • Setting the crane up for work, ground assessments, proximity hazards
  • Procedures for setting outriggers – safe handling of mats
  • Safety locks and devices – e.g. slew lock pins
  • Block, Jib, slew and fly jib operations
  • Pick and shift duties
  • Rating, configuration and use of general lifting accessories
  • Lifting and placing loads
  • De-rigging and stowage procedures

Duration

1 – 5 Days depending on previous experience.
